Meet the In the Night Garden Characters

Iggle Piggle is physical and energetic - a well loved teddy that is always jumping and bouncing. He is curious and adventurous, but also vulnerable and modest. Despite his energy he is often in need of reassurance and comfort. In fact any sort of surprise can prove to be too much for him to cope with, and he simply falls over. However he quickly sits back up and starts again! Upsy Daisy is his very good friend and the second most important thing in Iggle Piggles world. Blanket is the most important thing in the whole world to Iggle Piggle and it never leaves his side - Intentionally anyway!

Iggle Piggle is the only character that does not sleep in the garden (apart from when he fell asleep on Upsy Daisy's bed), instead he tucks himself back into the boat that he arrived in at the begining of the programme, and drifts off across the sea snug and asleep.

Iggle Piggle does not speak but he has a bell in his left foot, a squeak in his tummy and a rattle in his left hand.

The Igglepiggle song:

Yes- My name is Igglepiggle

Igglepiggle-niggle-wiggle-diggle

Yes- My name is Igglepiggle

Igglepiggle-wiggle-niggle-woo!

Upsy daisy is a happy and optimistic dolly. She is confident and demonstrative, and loves nothing more than dancing throughout the Garden, her tummy chime tinkling as she goes. More often than not she will convince the other characters she encounters during her travels to join her in a special dance. She and Iggle Piggle are best friends - almost like brother and sister. Her favourite thing is her skirt, which she inflates via a pull-string whenever she is about to dance. She also has a special megaphone to ensure that all in the garden can hear her, as well as a very special bed that has a mind of its own, alternatively chasing her around the garden, and running away when called.

Upsy Daisy has a very special place in the garden, the Daisy Patch, which only she visits.

Upsy Daisy's Song:

Upsy Daisy here I come,

I'm the only upsy one,

I'm the only daisy too,

Ipsy Upsy Daisy Doo!

Makka Pakka is a pat-a-cake toy who lives in a little cave, at the end of a gully, at the edge of the garden. He likes nothing more than collecting stones. He also enjoys washing and drying the faces of other toys in the garden. To do so he has a lovely big sponge and a bar of purple soap, as well as a special bellows-like face dryer, all of which he wheels around the garden on his Og-Pog. The Og-pog is a three-wheeled vehicle that he pushes around the garden, upon which he carries his sponge, uff-nuff and trumpet. It too makes a funny noise and often Makka Pakka can be heard before he can be seen in the Garden!

Because he is amongst the smallest of the characters in the garden he also has a trumpet, with which he announces his arrival to other toys.

Makka Pakka is the most independent character in the programme. He is friends with all the toys in the garden, but he happily goes about his business himself.

Makka Pakka Song:

Makka Pakka, Akka Wakka, Mikka, Makka Moo!

Makka Pakka Appa Yakka Ikka akka ooo,

Hum dum Agga pang Ing ang ooo,

Makka Pakka, Akka Wakka, Mikka makka Moo!

The Tombliboos are timbly, knockabout pepper-pot toys. There are three Tombliboos - Unn, Ooo and Eee and they are inseparable! Unn is red and green, Ooo is brown and pink and Eee is pink and yellow. They live in an extraordinary bush in the garden, filled with endless levels, interconnected by staircases and slides. The tombliboos totter about their bush and the Garden as a group, rarely individually. Their trousers tend to fall down at unexpected times, so much so they don't bother to wear them inside their bush at all, hanging them up a little clothes line outside instead. When inside their bush they can be found playing their piano or banging their drums, or stacking and sorting their building blocks.

The Tombliboos enjoy brushing their teeth before bedtime, but given the size of their toothbrushes, it is never easy!

The Tombliboo song:

Ombliboo Tombliboo, Knock on the door

Ombliboo Tombliboo, Sit on the floor.

Ombliboo Tombliboo, here is my nose -

Ombliboo Tombliboo, That's how it goes!
