Pingu is a unique show, created in 1986 by Swedish Animators, which focuses on the everyday life of a young penguin, Pingu. Pingu lives in the South Pole with his family and friends where everyday life can become an extraordinary and hilarious adventure. Pingu has an inquisitive and mischievous nature, which strikes a chord with audiences of all ages. Over 20 years the show has built up a huge fan following. Part of its unique appeal lays in the hilarious “penguinese” language that Pingu and his friends’ talk that easy to understand but very hard to speak!

Pingu recently became a world-renowned pop star when he featured in the video for Eskimo Disco’s first single. What will Pingu do next??

Pingu is a charming and cheeky penguin whose naughty behaviour is typical of any five-year-old boy who’s constantly pushing the boundaries to find out what he is allowed to do. Pingu is an extremely emotional penguin full of life and love and uses his exceptional ability to turn his beak into a trumpet to let us know whether he is happy or sad. His best friend is a seal called Robbie and together they go on lots of exciting adventures. Pingu loves to eat fish, and often eats more than one at once, but he hates fish porridge, in fact he can’t stand it!

Pinga is Pingu’s 3-year-old baby sister. She is too young to go to school with Pingu so goes to nursery instead, but Pingu will sometimes go with her to show her how to join in the games. She loves her big brother and always tags along when he’s around. Pinga has a toy rabbit, which she loves and takes it with her everywhere. She is a straightforward penguin and often covers up for Pingu when he’s in trouble.

Robbie is Pingu’s best friend and that means double trouble!!! With Pingu at his side Robbie lands himself in all sorts of comical situations, and they tend to egg each other on until they tip over the edge of silliness. Like Pingu Robbie is very fond of silliness and pulling pranks on the other residents of the South Pole. Despite Robbie’s mischievous behaviour he is actually very shy and Pingu is yet to find out all about his background.

Bajoo is a clumsy, snuffly and very shy junior “abominable snowman” who despite living in the Antarctic doesn’t like the cold. He keeps himself warm by wearing earmuffs and scarf at all times. Even his name derives from the sound he masks when sneezing! Determined to stay hidden from adult’s eyes, Bajoo emerges to play in secret with Pingu and Pinga, leaving only as trail of mysterious footprints.

Pingi is Pingu’s girlfriend, although Pingu wasn’t keen at the beginning. Pingi is not as adventurous as Pingu and she will only get herself into trouble or discover new things if Pingu has dragged her into it. When Pingu is around, she is happy to take a backseat in the action, but has a tough nature and an ability to stand up for herself if she needs to.
