The National Trust announced their new campaign on September 24 aiming to get children off their sofas, away from video games and start playing outdoors. A recent study organised by Play England showed that up to a third of parents were not letting their children have fun climbing trees or take part in slightly ‘risky activities’ and this is something the National Trust are hoping to change.
A list of 50 things to do before you’re eleven and three quarters has been published in the hope that parents will relax and feel more confident when it comes to encouraging normal outdoor activities. Featured on the lists are ideas such as:
- Play conkers
- Make a mud pie
- Run in the rain
- Skim a stone
- Build a den
- Roll down a hill
- Balancing on a fallen tree
Once the howling winds and torrential rain passes why not encourage your children to get a little dirty, hunt for bugs and wildlife and maybe tick a few things off the list.
