Product Designer

Reporting to Creative Manager

Competitive Salary

Full time and permanent (35 hours per week)

 

About the role

Here at Golden Bear, we have some exciting plans for the future, and we are looking for an energetic self-starter to join our Creative Hub to support establishing Golden Bear as a toy industry leader.

The Product Designer would be responsible for the conceptualisation, the design and development of fun, innovative toy lines within our branded and Own IP portfolios.  You are focused on creating innovative and exciting product opportunities for the company by understanding the consumer, trends and technology which you will then quickly but competently translate into successful products.

 

Responsibilities

  • Invent and conceptualise plastic and soft toy products for our branded and own IP ranges that deliver unique experiences at retail.
  • Ensuring designs are customer-focused, and trend-driven while being cost-effective for mass production.
  • Design from a variety of trigger points including insights, trends, market data and customer or licensor feedback.
  • Experience in pattern cutting and development of low, medium & high complexity products at pace.
  • Build knowledge of current and relevant plush and plastic toy manufacturing techniques to support design work and commerciality.
  • Support the preparation for costing including specification sheets and product datasheets.
  • Undertake elements of research such as consumer, fashion, toy trends and material innovation and present these to the wider business.

 

Key Capabilities

  • Initiative to deliver creative thinking and problem solving throughout a products journey.
  • A conceptual approach and an eye for detail.
  • Drive to deliver a wealth of inventions and ideas to feed into the creative hub.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience of pattern cutting and an understanding of production and assembly of plastic and soft good consumer items.
  • A basic understanding of Quality Assurance for mass produced consumer products.
  • Basic model making skills and an ability to think in 3D.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge of relevant programmes such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, In-Design, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Strong Influencing and communication skills to clearly present your ideas and rationale to stakeholders and product teams alike.

Creative Artworker

Reporting to Graphic Design Manager

About the role

Here at Golden Bear, we have some exciting plans for the future, and we are looking for an energetic, ambitious self-starter to join our Creative Hub to support establishing Golden Bear as a toy industry leader.

 

The Creative Artworker will be responsible for design adaptation and artwork production for a range of collateral from master design files.  You will be a hands-on creative who can confidently bring new ideas to the table and create exciting visual designs to promote our products.  It will be up to you to create strong, compelling visual content to connect and engage with our customers.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Artworking packaging designs getting them production-ready. You may also work on point of sale (POS) and retail displays.
  • You will play an instrumental part in supporting our Creative team across a range of printed and digital media.
  • Using your innovative and creative flair, you will be integral in contributing towards the creative idea generation, and collaborating with the wider team.
  • Providing consistent and accurate artwork that follows any brand guidelines.
  • Adapting existing artwork to alternative layouts and formats.
  • Conducting proof checking prior to going to print.
  • Liaising with external printers and acting as a point of contact.
  • Setting up, managing, and archiving accurate artwork files.

 

Key Capabilities

  • It is essential that you have a Graphic Design qualification.
  • You will have applied knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • You possess a strong understanding of design principles, typography and layout with knowledge of colour management and proofing being an advantage.
  • You will have the ability to understand and interpret design guidelines in artwork execution.
  • You have a good understanding of artwork specification requirements for all printed and digital media.
  • You will have previous experience in creative packaging artwork production.
  • You will be confident and naturally collaborative, possessing excellent communication and presentation skills with an exceptional eye for detail and meticulously high-quality standards.
  • You have a great eye for design and structured layout design.
  • You are efficient in the management of artwork and creating optimised artwork files.
  • You possess excellent knowledge of outputting press-ready PDF files with embedded colour profiles.
  • You have a good understanding of print and screen resolutions.
  • You possess the skill to retouch photos fast and efficiently.
  • You are curious in nature and passionate about keeping up to date with the latest trends in editing tools. You also have a natural desire to proactively develop your knowledge and skills
  • You will role model our company values and use them to guide your behaviours. You will also follow processes and procedures within the department and across the company.
