2021 has been full of Golden Bear Sustainability!

At Golden Bear protecting our planet is something we care deeply about, we've been doing a lot behind the scenes this year to become as sustainable as possible.

Flip the boxes below to learn 20 things Golden Bear have been doing in 2021 to increase our Sustainability! From recycled production materials, to changing inks on packaging to make them easier to recycle. We're proud to announce we have also been certified with ISO 14001 Environmental standard!

We have a dedicated sustainability team who continue to explore how we can improve week by week and we have external support in place where we need it, to make sure we are on track.

Below are 20 things Golden Bear have been doing in 2021 to increase our Sustainability! From recycled production materials, to changing inks on packaging to make them easier to recycle. We're proud to announce we have also been certified with ISO 14001 Environmental standard!

#1 - Golden Bear UK are a certified carbon neutral company. Supporting carbon offset projects in India, South America, and Indonesia. This means all the carbon we produce in the UK we reduce elsewhere in the world, where it is needed most.

#2 - Our entire Hey Duggee range of soft toys has been moved into recycled fabric from Autumn 2021. That’s over 3 million bottles recycled in 2021 alone!

#3 - LED lighting has been installed throughout GB UK HQ. LED technology converts more electrical energy into useful light and less into heat. This makes LED lighting more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly than any other type of lightbulb.

#4 - We are going to add resin codes to plastic products in 2022 to ease recycling. This means once your child has finished playing with them, if you can't find another loving home for the toy it can be more easily recycled at the end of its life.

#5 - Electric car charging points installed at the Golden Bear UK HQ, encouraging more sustainable travel amongst our staff.

#6 - Golden Bear have joined the 'Products of Change' group.

With education at its heart, Products of Change is a global ‘living library’ of sustainable learnings, designed to support, encourage and perpetuate companies and brands in meeting their sustainability goals.

#7 - We are cutting back on unnecessary plastic. All plastic ties in our packaging have been replaced with a card equivalent.

#8 - Golden Bear UK operates as zero to landfill site. Nothing leaves our HQ without being recycled.

#9 - We have donated all of our returned toys to charitable causes.

#10 - Mr Tumble and The Baby Club soft toys will be made using recycled fabric from 2022.

#11 - By 2022, soy inks will be used on all of our packaging. These renewable natural inks allow for paper and card to be recycled more easily.

#12 - The Recycle More logo has been added to all packaging released from Autumn 2021, informing you of where product should be taken at the end of its life.

#13 - In March 2021 we had solar panels installed on our roof. 15 tonnes of CO2 saved and around 670 trees planted so far.

#14 - The OPRL recycle logo has been added to all packaging released from Autumn 2021. The OPRL scheme aims to deliver a simple, consistent and UK-wide recycling message on retailer and brand packaging - to help consumers reuse and recycle more material correctly, more often.

#15 - The stuffing in all of our soft toys is made from recycled PET bottles.

#16 - Golden Bear have begun moving our packaging to FSC card with a view to all packaging being made using Forest Stewardship Council card in 2023.

#17 - Golden Bear are setting up Higg membership – The Higg Facility Environmental Module (Higg FEM) is a sustainability assessment tool that standardizes how facilities measure and evaluate their environmental performance, year over year.

#19 - Golden Bear are on mission to eradicate excess packaging on all product. An example of this has involved moving some product to closed boxes to completely remove single use plastic materials.
